Dream Interpretation: The Basics & Beyond
What this course will cover:
The sociohistorical context that drives why dream interpretation isn’t a widely accepted and utilized practice in our culture.
Rationale for why dreams are so much more than we were taught in Western patriarchal culture, including the importance of dreaming in other cultures, the importance of Western dream culture in antiquity, and how even modern Western culture, despite its devaluing of dreaming, provides evidence for the legitimacy and even the prophetic nature of dreams. For example, did you know that the reason Harriet Tubman never lost a passenger on her underground railroad was because she used dream states to see dangers ahead and find routes she’d never traveled before?
How modern quantum physics may explain how dreams are more than just hallucinations created by your sleeping brain and how they might actually allow you to enter a different dimension of reality.
Dream interpretation mindset: How the expert dream interpreters in modern day and antiquity, have conceptualized and worked with dreams, so you can begin to adopt their mindsets and practices to better work with your dreams.
How to begin remembering your dreams and begin doing so more consistently.
Common dream symbols (archetypes) and their meanings: The Fool, animals, water, vehicles, etc. And, a few resources for additional information.
Two step-by-step methods on how to interpret dreams: an abbreviated method and a more comprehensive method.
Examples of these interpretation methods applied to actual dreams.
An example of a larger dream story that resulted in the creation of this course.
What you won’t get with this course:
Instant results
Despite what the Western world leads us to believe, you can’t have it ALL right now. This is why we are in the mess we are in. The same goes for learning how to interpret your dreams. It requires time and effort.
Solution: Practice patience, young grasshopper, and practice what you have learned. Patience and practice are what will get you results.
Someone to do all of the work for you
If you’d like to know what your dreams mean but you’d like someone else to do this for you, to tell you exactly what your dreams mean and what to do with them, you’re out of luck.
This isn’t how dream interpretation (or really anything) works. You have to put in some effort in to understand how dreams work, understand yourself, and learn the language of your dreams.
Solution: Figure out why you don’t want to do this yourself. Why do you want someone to do this for you? Is it too effortful, too scary, too overwhelming, too uncomfortable? There may be some (terrifying and unsightly) parts of yourself that you need to look at before you can begin working with your dreams.
A forum to share your dreams with others for interpretation
This is an independent, self-paced program, so you won’t be working with other students or me directly.
Solution: If you’d like to work with others, encourage some friends to take this course, then form a dream group that meets on a regular basis (e.g., via Zoom, FaceTime).
Individual access to me
Again, this is an independent, self-paced program, so you’ll be learning at your own pace from the videos I’ve developed and the course exercises. I’d like to offer everyone individual access to me but if I did that, I’d have to charge more for the course. Not everyone wants or needs that component, so I’m offering it as an option rather than an automatic.
Solution: Those who would like individual access to me for help in interpreting their dreams or to answer other questions on dream interpretation, can schedule a paid consultation with me by clicking here.
